The Swimming Cities of Serenissima is a fleet of three intricately hand crafted vessels that will navigate the Adriatic Sea from the Litoral region of Slovenia to Venice, Italy in May of 2009. Designed by the visual artist SWOON, the floating sculptures are descendants of the Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea (Hudson River, 2008) and the Miss Rockaway Armada (Mississippi River, 2006 and 2007).
SWOON’s boats are inspired by dense urban cityscapes and thickly intertwined mangrove swamps from her Florida youth. The Swimming Cities of Serenissima are built from salvaged materials, including modified Mercedes car motors with long-tail propellers. The boats’ crew is made up of 30 collaborating artists from the United States.
This sounds so dreamy! The images above are two of the three boats (only two are complete at this time) scheduled to sail this month. There was a similar exhibition last year on the Hudson River... I can't get enough of these photos.

Eva Eun-Sil Han

I know I go on and on about collage, but sometimes I'm just really impressed. Eva Eun-Sil Han brings a wonderful creativity to the genre with vintage photographs in combination with pencil and gouache. I'm going to look at these with 3D glasses now, bye.

Still Alive

Sorry for the serious lack of blogging lately... All the usual excuses (business/laziness) apply. I also broke my femur (long story) and have been mildly distracted by health issues. In other news, I've been listening to a lot of Women lately and they rule, and I ordered these SICK 3D glasses yesterday. With a new three-dimensional outlook on life, I'll be sure to have more invigorating posts to come.

Juana Molina

Three music posts in a row?? Maybe this will be a music blog for 2009. But I couldn't resist posting about this lady... Juana Molina from Argentina is absolutely transcendental. Spanish melodies repeat and layer with haunting instrumentation, creating the kind of dreamy atmosphere you need when all you want to do is lay on the floor and listen to music.

The Weakends

ARE SO EFFING CATCHY. French garage-punk for your January doldrums.
